Confessions of a youth worker Episode 5: Lifting the lid on mental health and youth violence
We are lifting the lid on the inspiring, challenging and often untold stories from the world of youth and community work.
When we think of youth work, what comes to mind? For some, it’s after-school programmes or summer play schemes. But the reality is much more complex, much more impactful, and at times, much more raw. Behind every initiative, every programme, every outreach effort, there are people—youth workers, mentors, volunteers—who are pouring their hearts into creating change. And there are young people whose lives are being shaped, sometimes saved, by these efforts.
Yet, despite the critical role that youth and community workers play, their stories are seldom told in full. The late nights spent in community centres, the endless hours of mentorship, the emotional toll of supporting young people through their darkest moments—these are the experiences that don’t often make headlines. But here, in Confessions of a Youth Worker we’re here to bring those stories to the forefront.
